Isothermal Community College will offer Certified Nurse Aide I classes at the Polk Center in Columbus beginning in late August.
A variety of job opportunities in the health care industry are open to Certified Nurse Aides, including positions in clinics, hospitals, nursing homes and physician offices.
“Nurse aides are the backbone of patient care today,” said Betsy Cuthbertson, nurse coordinator for Isothermal Community College. “They spend the majority of their working hours engaged in direct, one-on-one care and help their clients maintain a high quality of life and independence. Being a C.N.A. (Certified Nursing Assistant) can be one of them most rewarding and fulfilling professions in the medical field.”
Training includes basic anatomy, nutrition, patient care and a basic understanding of the nursing industry. Potential students must be 17 years of age or have a high school diploma. Candidates must also pass a reading test (CASAS) or provide an unofficial college transcript for proof of completion of a college level English course.
Class schedules are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m.–12 p.m., Aug. 28 – Jan. 25 or Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Aug. 28 – Oct. 31.
