Green Creek Hounds summer hunt week

Published 3:56 pm Monday, August 6, 2012

August may mean lazy days of summer for many but for the Green Creek Hounds it is filled with fun and anticipation. Young hounds are being introduced to the sport of foxhunting, and new members are learning to ride behind the pack. All begin to recognize the huntsman’s calls both of voice and horn. Horses new to hunting settle in and prepare for the winter season. One of the highlights of summer comes at the end of August, when Green Creek Hounds celebrates the coming of fall with Hunt Week. This year it will be Aug. 23-25. Hunting will take place on Aug. 23 and 25 at 7 a.m., followed by a breakfast both days. On Friday evening, Aug. 24, Green River Plantation will host a “Day In the Country” party, which includes square dancing lessons.
