Interim mgr. Davis to stay as fire chief
Tryon Town Council has narrowed its choices for a permanent manager down to six candidates.
Tryon Mayor Alan Peoples said the town has received approximately 35 applications for manager, and council has narrowed the candidates down to six for interviews. The town plans to begin interviews at the end of this month, Peoples said.
Interim manager and fire chief Joey Davis will stay on as the town’s fire chief and zoning administrator.
Davis has served as the town’s interim manager, fire chief and zoning administrator since the town fired former manager Justin Hembree in January. Hembree had been the town’s manager since 2009, beginning as interim manager and later being hired as the permanent manager.
Davis has been Tryon’s fire chief since 2007 and was given the title of planning and zoning administrator in 2010.
Prior to Hembree, Tryon’s manager was Dr. Jack Miller, who stayed only a few months prior to resigning. Miller replaced former town manager Jim Fatland, who worked for the Town of Tryon for about five years until he resigned in December 2007.
Peoples said Davis has done an excellent job serving multiple roles for the past six months.
“Joey (Davis) wants to stay on in the fire department,” Peoples said. “He’s done an excellent job as interim (manager).”
