God bless our beautiful mountains

To the Editor:
To our knowlege, there have been several recent articles in The Tryon Daily Bulletin concerning our county’s planning board taking up the issue of adversely changing the slope ordinances.
Certainly we were satisfied with what had already been accomplished in 2009 regarding the slope ordinance put in place after “Chocolate Drop.”
At that time, the public came forward to let the planning board know that this was important to them, but now there may not be enough public interest to prevent them changing what we then supported. Some people from Saluda have already been actually supporting changing it.
We are not engineers or scientists but have lived in WNC most of our lives and certainly appreciate our area mountains as well as have an understanding of how the public safety could be neglected due to a less than adequate protective ordinance, not to mention the higher expense of county services to accommodate possible changes that really would not be fair to all county taxpayers either. If we do not show support in resisting this change, our mountains are again at stake.
The next two planning board meetings will be held in the commissioners meeting room on the second floor of the Womack Building in Columbus, Wednesday, June 27 at 5 p.m. and on Thursday, July 12 at 5 p.m.
Please bless our beautiful mountains.
