PCHS students Anna Koenig, Mason Umlauf and Ben Stockdale give out white pine seedlings to Saluda School third-graders. Nine members of the Polk County High School Green Team recently visited each of the third-grade classes throughout the county schools to promote Earth Day (April 22). The green team talked with the students about the importance of recycling, energy conservation and the overall preservation of the natural environment. Students participating were Emily Costine, Emily Kocher, Koenig, Kari Malki, Malynne Petoia, Stockdale, Umlauf, Rachel Vining and Caroline Wolfe. Each third-grader was given a white pine seedling to plant at home. This project was sponsored by the Tryon Parks Committee and the PCHS Green Team. The club’s faculty advisor is Joel Picher. John Vining accompanied the presentation and supplied the seedlings through the Tryon Parks Committee and helped with the team and the elementary students as well. (photo submitted by Joel M.
