Millard & Co. of Tryon is partnering with Polk County Schools to sponsor the Polk County High Global Reach award.
This award would include a $5,000 prize for the teacher from Polk County selected as the educator who has had the greatest impact in leading their students to future success.
“The reason I want to do this is the Polk County schools have been great to me and great for my son,” Millard said. “I believe teaching is the most important job in the world but they rarely get that recognition.”
This year they will get that acknowledgment.
At senior night at the end of this school year one teacher will be awarded the Global Reach award including a trophy and $5,000 check. Other members of the selection committee include Aaron Greene and Sherrill Wingo.
Millard encourages parents to tell their adult children about this award so that they might nominate the teacher they feel is most deserving. Millard will send additional information to students via email but he said he currently needs names and email addresses of any Polk County High School alumni who might be interested.
Millard said he is looking for nominations from alumni who attended Polk County High School from as early as 2002 to as late as 2008.
“The idea is that we want young adults to make the decision – what teacher had the most profound impact on their lives,” Millard said. “What we’re really shooting for are young people who are doing amazing things – it may be in Polk County or it may be on the other side of the globe.”
Nominations can be sent by email to camillard@mac.com through May 8.
