FMC scholarship auditions March 2-3
The Foothills Music Club (FMC) will present its annual organ concert, “Musical Moments on the Organ,” on Thursday, March 8 at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Congregational Church on Melrose Avenue in Tryon.
This is FMC’s second public recital of the year.
Organists performing this year will be:
• FMC members Carole Bartol, John Gardner and Eleanor Roemer
• Lesley Bush, the minister of music at Tryon Presbyterian Church
• Susan Mahnke, the organist/choir director for Holy Cross Episcopal Church
• Diane Pickens, the director of music/organist for the Congregational Church.
The pipe organ in the Congregational Church is a new console that was installed last year. The choir area was also changed and many of the organ pipes were repositioned for better sound.
The special organ program will include a variety of “musical moments” from favorite composers such as J. S. Bach, Johannes Brahms and Charles Gounod. There will also be selections from a few French composers, such as D’Aquin, Gigout and Boellmann.
In addition to the solos, the organ will be used to accompany a choral ensemble of club members and friends singing “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” by John Rutter.
Since its formation in 1988, the FMC has maintained a high level of musical excellence while encouraging its members to practice their skills through performances.
In addition, the FMC provides scholarships to deserving young musicians in the area to help with their music studies.  Auditions for these awards will be held on March 2 and 3 in the Tryon Presbyterian Church.  Applications are available by calling 828-894-6493.
