Polk County DSS has announced that additional funding for the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP) has been received. This program seeks to alleviate heating or cooling crises for families whose income is at 150 percent of the federal poverty level and who are U.S. citizens or qualified aliens. Applicants must also have received a disconnect notice or have exhausted their fuel supply.
There is a limit to the amount of money each family can receive each fiscal year, which runs from July 1 through June 30. Households that have received $600 in CIP assistance since July 1, 2011 will not be eligible for more assistance. If qualified, payments are made directly to the vendor.
Applications can be taken from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at: Polk DSS, 231 Wolverine Trail, Mill Spring. For more information, call 828-894-2100.
