James Andrew Hensley

On Saturday, Feb. 11, the Columbus Police Department arrested James Andrew Hensley, 23, of Fletcher, N.C. The arrest followed a high speed chase on I-26.
Hensley was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest, fugitive from justice, driving while impaired, speeding, driving while license revoked, reckless driving, injury to property, resisting arrest and other traffic violations. Hensley is being held in the Polk County Jail under a $23,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance on Monday, Feb. 13.
The Columbus Police Department was requested to assist after Hensley fled from a Campobello police officer and other South Carolina law enforcement agencies into North Carolina.  Columbus officers utilized “stop sticks” to flatten the suspect vehicle’s tires, slowing the pursuit to safer speeds. The pursuit ended just before the Saluda exit on I-26 west, where Hensley fled on foot and was apprehended a few minutes later.
Hensley received minor injuries from running through the thick brush but refused treatment from EMS.
The Columbus Police Department was assisted by the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Tryon Police Department, Saluda Police Department and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
