The Upstairs Artspace lights up the holidays with “Presents of Art,” a major craft show opening Saturday, Nov. 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The annual event offers crafts for every taste and pocketbook.
About 60 regional artists participate with jewelry, scarves, handbags, bird houses, Christmas ornaments, soaps, woodturned objects, decorative dolls, ceramic and glass art, fiber art, children’s toys, pet presents and candles.
“Our goal is to provide fresh, exciting, well-made crafts for the holiday shopper,” said Wyndy Morehead, event chair.
Normally a showcase for contemporary art, the Upstairs becomes a large upscale shop between Thanksgiving and Christmas. “Presents of Art” is an important fundraiser for the 34-year-old nonprofit organization.
There is a members’ only Preview Party Friday, Nov. 25, 5 to 8 p.m. featuring a 10-percent discount on purchases. For a modest charge, people can join the Upstairs at the door.
“Presents” is sponsored, in part, by ExpressIt, McKinsey Printing, Tomkin Design and the Jim Freeman Memorial Fund.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays, 1 – 5 p.m. through December 24. Contact 828-859-2828 or www.upstairsartspace.org for information.
