VFW Post 10349 came to Tryon Elementary School (TES) recently to discuss Veterans Day with the students. The veterans conducted two programs, one for kindergarten through second grades and one for third through fifth grades.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the flag was folded while an explanation was given for each fold of the flag. The children had the opportunity to help fold the flag. They discussed the importance of the American Flag, flag etiquette and what the stars and stripes represent. The fourth grade sang “It’s a Grand Old Flag.”

The VFW representatives talked about the Poppy Program and recognized Ransom Ravan for his winning essay on the program.
