Tryon Concert Association opens season with tenor Nicholas Phan and pianist Myra Huang

The Tryon Concert Association, now beginning its 57th year, will present American tenor, Nicholas Phan and pianist, Myra Huang, Friday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. at the Tryon Fine Arts Center on Melrose Ave. in Tryon.

Phan is considered one of the rising young stars of the opera world. He has performed throughout this country and in Europe in many leading operatic roles. He tours widely in recital roles and this season will perform across the United States, ending at Carnegie Hall in December. Phan has won numerous prizes and is a Grammy nominee for his recording of Stravinsky’s “Pulcinella” performed with Pierre Boulez and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
Pianist Myra Huang, a Juilliard graduate in piano with a master’s degree in collaborative piano from the Manhattan School of Music, has won prizes in major piano competitions in this country and in Spain. She has worked with leading vocalist and artistic directors and has served on the music staff of The Washington National Opera, New York City Opera and Opera Pacific.
The program on Oct. 7 will feature works from two of England’s most celebrated composers, Henry Purcell and Benjamin Britten.
