Kip and Carol Jean Vosburgh, Tryon area residents, competed in the Lake Lure Triathlon Saturday, Aug. 27. The triathlon consisted of a 500m swim, followed by a 17-mile bike and finishing with a 3.1-mile run. This annual event was held at the Rumbling Bald Resort on Lake Lure. For Kip, this was his first triathlon in more than 11 years. Even with the metal, plate, rod and screws in his leg, he was challenged to compete and came out a silver medalist winner, placing second in his age group. Carol Jean finished first with a gold medal for age group 65 - 69. Both are survivors, coming back from cycling accidents.
