James ‘Jim’ Rose

James “Jim” Rose of Columbus passed away Monday, July 11, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing Center in Saluda.
Jim was born on December 20, 1928 in Jellico, Ky., to the late Sydney Barnes Rose Jr. and his wife, Mable Catherine Lindsay Rose. He grew up in Knoxville, Tenn., and married Ruth Claiborne, a native of Knoxville. Jim was a long-time member of the Knoxville business community, but lived in the Nashville and Atlanta areas for a number of years before returning to Tellico Village in Loudon, Tenn., in 1996. He and Ruth moved to Columbus in 2010.
In his leisure time, Jim loved to play golf and in his playing days could be seen at the Holston Hills Country Club in Knoxville and the Hillwood Country Club in Nashville several times a week. Jim also enjoyed playing the organ, which he took up later in life.
Mr. Rose is survived by his loving wife, Ruth; two children, Richard L. Rose of Houston, Texas, and Susan Rose Penfold (Robert) of Tryon; three grandchildren, Amy Medici (Michael) of Wellesley, Mass., Lauren Penfold of Atlanta and William Penfold of Atlanta; one great-granddaughter, Cecilia Rose Medici of Wellesley, Mass.; one sister, Charlene Stevens of Sebring, Fla.,and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held in Knoxville, Tenn.
