Just in time for the late spring blessing of the Path of Remembrance at Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills in Landrum, a new rustic pergola has been built to provide shade for visitors to the path.

The slat-roofed structure, placed at the end of the curving brick walkway, has already become a favored resting place out of the direct sun for Remembrance Path visitors. Built by volunteers Jack Wright and DeWayne Carroll, with wood donated from Ken’s Inc. of Spartanburg and the Home Depot at Dorman Center, it is bound to be a long-lasting gift to the families cared for by Hospice of the Carolina Foothills (HoCF) at the Hospice House.

The path, made up of engraved bricks and pavers, provides a way to honor loved ones with a lasting tribute. At the same time, benefactors are providing a donation that helps HoCF pay down their $1.5 million mortgage.

“All the profit from the bricks and pavers will go directly toward the mortgage,” explained HoCF Development Manager Diane Nelson.

“We will bless the path on June 8 at 9:30 a.m.,” Nelson said. “Everyone who has purchased a brick or paver will be invited, of course. But this will also be a community event. The blessing will celebrate the accomplishments of the people who have helped finance the path, the newly installed grounds and all the people who will visit and seek comfort there.”

Area residents are welcome to walk the Path of Remembrance and are invited to the blessing of the path Wednesday, June 8.
