The Tryon Police Department, with the assistance of the Columbus Police Department, this week arrested an armed robbery suspect wanted out of Rutherford County.
Tryon Police Chief Jeff Arrowood said Matthew Young of 248 Young St., Spindale, N.C., was found in the Peake Street and Markham Road area in Tryon on May 31.
Young and Julian Miller of 415 Maple Creek Road in Rutherfordton, N.C., were wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred on May 31 in Rutherford County in which several firearms were stolen, according to Arrowood.
Local officers searched the area in Tryon and apprehended Young. Miller is believed to have fled the area, said Arrowood.
Young was arrested and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and breaking and entering of a motor vehicle. Young is being held at the Rutherford County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
“Cooperation between the community and law enforcement working together assisted in the apprehension of Matthew Young,” said Arrowood.
Authorities believe that both suspects have ties to gangs in Rutherford County.
Anyone with information regarding the Rutherford County robbery or the whereabouts of Miller are urged to contact the Foothills Crimestoppers at 1-800-847-7119 or the Tryon Police Department at 828-859-9195.
