The Church Women United will celebrate May Friendship Day Saturday, May 14 at 9:30 a.m. at the Tryon Presbyterian Church. The speaker will be Mary Davis.

At a time (1933) when people were despondent and standing in food lines in New York City, the Women’s Council for Home Missions was meeting in N.Y. The group decided a festive mood was needed to help people. Six weeks later a May Day luncheon was held at the George Washington Hotel.

Today, that thought has developed into May Friendship Day, sponsored by the Church Women United. The day has become a time to get together and honor women of all ages and act on issues of the day.
