Editor’s note: The following is a release sent yesterday by Congressman Heath Shuler regarding the death of Osama bin Laden.
Yesterday, Osama bin Laden, the man responsible for the murder of thousands of Americans, was brought to justice thanks to the courageous actions of the U.S. military. Today we honor and thank the Navy SEALS who undertook that mission and all the members of our military and intelligence agencies whose hard work and dedication brought an end to this manhunt after so many years. I also offer my thanks to President Obama for his commitment and perseverance to finding bin Laden and bringing an end to his reign of terror.
While bin Laden’s death cannot bring back the individuals whose lives were taken on September 11, I am hopeful this news does offer their families some closure.
We will remain focused on protecting our nation and will continue to track and destroy any who wish harm upon us.
Again, I offer my heartfelt thanks to all the men and women serving our nation in uniform and in our intelligence and defense agencies. They and the families of those taken from us on September 11 are in my prayers.
