Cindy Nanney has been named Polk County Public Library’s new director. Nanney has been the interim director for the library since last fall.
“We are very proud of Cindy and are happy that we were able to promote from within,” said Polk County Manager Ryan Whitson. “I enjoy seeing people rise from the ranks.”
Nanney has been an integral part of the PCPL since she joined the library staff in the spring 2007 as the reference and adult services librarian. For most residents of Polk County and patrons of the library, Nanney is a very familiar face as a staff member “on the front lines” as she supports the community with reference and library questions and through her education classes for basic computer skills and library resource sessions. In her new position, she will still be a very visible member of the team and will continue teaching computer classes and providing reference support to the staff and patrons for reference queries.

According to Nanney, she anticipates no major changes in library services or programs in the near future.
“I’m very pleased to have been offered the position,” Nanney said. “I’ve been with the library for four years and look forward to continuing all the good things we have going on here.”
Nanney has an associate degree in computers from Isothermal Community College (Spindale, N.C.), a bachelor’s degree in computer information systems from Mercer University (Atlanta, Ga.), and a master’s degree in library and information systems from the University of North Carolina (Greensboro, N.C.). Nanney lives in Rutherfordton, N.C., with her husband and two sons.
“The staff is excited that Cindy Nanney has been officially named as director for our library.  She brings with her an energy and passion for the Polk County Public Library and her focus on our community’s needs. She clearly loves what she does and the people she provides services for,” said Tracey Daniels, community relations specialist.
