4-H livestock teams attend N.C. Jr. Hereford Association Judging in January

On Saturday, Jan. 22, Polk County 4-H brought two senior teams and one junior individual to compete in Raleigh at the North Carolina Jr. Hereford Association Judging. At this event, youth place classes of livestock (cattle, sheep, meat goats and swine) based on characteristics – most desirable to least desirable – for breeding or market and then give reasons to defend their decisions. Senior team members consisted of Alexa Hughes, Nick Sheffron, Larry Dyer, Alina Kolberg, Kaytee McCullough and Gabrielle Clark. Junior individual was Luke Dyer and the team captain was Kendra Bissette. The senior team placed third overall. Gabrielle Clark was the high individual placing 12th overall. Luke Dyer placed 26th overall in the junior category out of 62 participants and 9th in meat goats. (photo submitted)
