Kathleen T. Cardwell

Kathleen Thompson Cardwell, 89, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011 at Autumn Care of Drexel.

Born in Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Mossie Edwards Thompson. She was a veteran, having served during WWII. She was a schoolteacher for over 20 years and was a member of Columbus Methodist Church for many years.

She is survived by her brother, Arthur Russell Thompson of Morganton, N.C.; two nephews, Russell Wade Thompson (Joyce) of Redart, Va.; Mark Thompson (Judy) of Morganton, N.C., and two nieces, Sheila Boyd (Joe) of Abingdon, Va., and Linda Galyon (Marty) of Sweetwater, Tenn.; as well as their children and grandchildren. Kathleen is also survived by her best friend and longtime caregiver, Mildred Sheets of Morganton, N.C.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel in Tryon, with Rev. David Duncan of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church officiating.
