The embankment behind the Old Mill Market Square off U.S. 176 in Tryon near the state line caught fire Thursday afternoon, Feb. 10. The Tryon Fire Department received the call at 3:51 p.m. and arrived at 3:56 p.m. to find the fire racing up the hill toward the railroad tracks, according to Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis. Columbus and Landrum fire departments assisted, with all three departments utilizing ATVs because of the steep terrain. The fire was under control around 4:20 p.m. The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. (photo by Leah Justice)
