Eleanor Petersen

Eleanor Petersen, 87, of Columbus died Feb. 3, 2011. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Frances Cox Napier and widow of Douglas Petersen. She was a member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church and was retired as the executive secretary for the dean of Seabury Western Theological Seminary. She was involved in AAUW, Outreach Ministries, Folk Chorale, Parkinson’s Support Group, Polk Life Care and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She retired to Polk County from Evanston, Ill.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Petersen (Debbie) of Columbus and Kenneth Petersen of Miami, Ariz.; a sister, Ann Owen (Calvin) of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two grandsons, Christopher and Andrew Petersen and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kimberly Petersen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, 2011 at Holy Cross Episcopal Church in Tryon.
