Josh Metcalf, a fullback at Asheville High School, signed a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, Feb. 2 to play football next season for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Metcalf is the grandson of Hubert and Ann Metcalf of Polk County and has many other family members in the area. Metcalf’s blocking, running and receiving ability helped the Cougars make it to the third round of the playoffs this season. His grandparents said they wish him great success as he plays next year at the next level. (photo submitted)
