PCHS homecoming tonight

Polk County High School celebrates homecoming today with the Wolverine Festival at the high school football stadium beginning at 11:30 a.m. and culminating in the Polk vs. Avery game tonight at 7 p.m.

The Wolverine Festival is open to the public; bring a picture ID to get in. There will be free activities as well as others for a fee.

The Powder Puff game between the junior and senior girls will begin around 2 p.m.

The homecoming parade will begin at 5 p.m. at Food Lion and will proceed through downtown Columbus and end at the high school.

The homecoming festivities will be held during half-time of the Polk County varsity football game against Avery. Miss Wolverine, Maid of Honor, and Homecoming Queen will be crowned by the 2009 Maid of Honor, Letoya Twitty.

All the underclassmen attendants are eligible to win Miss Wolverine, which is voted on by the PCHS football team.

The seniors are eligible to win the title of Maid of Honor and Homecoming Queen and are voted on by the entire Polk County High School student body.

Freshmen:

Haley Champion – daughter of Michael and Lori Champion of Green Creek, escorted by her father.&bsp; She&bsp; has played Varsity Volleyball for 3 years and Varsity Softball for 4.&bsp; She is a member of the FFA, FCA, Interact Club, Key Club, and Spanish Club.&bsp; She was Miss Wolverine in 2008.&bsp; She would like to attend Western Carolina University and major in nursing.

Ashley Lynch – daughter of Bryan and Laura Lynch of Sunny View, escorted by her father.&bsp; She has played volleyball, basketball, and soccer and has run cross country.&bsp; She is a member of the FFA, FTA, Key Club, Interact Club and the National Honors Society.&bsp; She is an active member of the Coopers Gap Baptist Church.&bsp; Ashley hopes to attend Appalachian State University to major in education and social sciences.

Savanna Mitchell – daughter of Randy and Angel Mitchell of Tryon, escorted by her father.&bsp; She has participated in Indoor/Outdoor track and golf.&bsp; She is a member of Key Club, Student Action for Global Awareness, and Green Team.&bsp; She plans to attend college at UNC-Wilmington or UNC-Chapel Hill.

Melinda Morgan – daughter of Tony Morgan and Phyllis Arrington of Saluda, escorted by her father. She has played volleyball and basketball and runs track and field and cross country. She is a member of the National Honors Society, FFA, and FCA.&bsp; She has served as a page at the NC House of Representatives and is a member of Mountain Page Baptist Church Choir.&bsp; She plans to play basketball in college and become a nurse.

Brittany Phipps – daughter of David and Genie Phipps of Sunny View, escorted by her father.&bsp; She is Senior Class President, a member of FCA, FFA, Spanish Club, National Honors Society, Key Club, Interact, and SAGA. She plays volleyball, basketball, and soccer for the wolverines. Brittany attends Coopers Gap Baptist Church.&bsp; She plans to attend a 4 year university to double major in mathematics and sociology then plans to get her masters degree and become an educator/administrator.

Kailey Russell – daughter of Keith and Tami Russell of Green Creek. She has played volleyball, basketball, and soccer for the wolverines and is a member of FFA and is a FCA leader.&bsp; She was Miss Wolverine 2009 and is a member of New Freedom Baptist Church youth choir. Kailey plans to attend a four-year college to major in nursing.
