Dennis Joe D.J. Cox, 48, of Laurel Ave., Landrum, died Monday, October 11, 2010 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, S.C.

Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of Mildred Helton Cox Walker of Landrum and the late John Vernon Cox. He was a past greens keeper at Tryon Country Club for approximately 24 years. Joe was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving beside his mother are:&bsp; two children, Charlotte Cox of Landrum and Tabitha Cox of Green Creek; two brothers, Fred Cox of Landrum and Johnny Cox (Sandra) of Campobello, and two sisters, Shirley Case of Columbus and Louise Brock (Robert), also of Columbus. Also surviving are five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews as well as his companion, Karen Torres of Landrum. He was preceded in death by a brother, James William Cox.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon with Rev. Bobby Pierce and Rev. Tom Frady officiating.

Burial will follow the service in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus.

The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.

The family will be at the home of his mother, Mildred Walker, 430 Earl Street, Landrum, S.C. 29356.
