Autism spectrum parent support group to meet Sept. 7

A group of families have joined together to create a new Autism and Aspergers parent support group which will serve Polk County and the Foothills area.

The next meeting will be held at the Polk County Public Librarys community room in Columbus on September 7 at 6 p.m.

Septembers featured speaker will be Polk County resident Belynda Veser. She will discuss the common symptoms seen in people with autistic spectrum disorders and the medications used for treatment. Time will be allocated for Q&A. Veser is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and has experience in private practice, community mental health and geriatrics. She completed her residency in general adult psychiatry at MUSC in Charleston, S.C.

The group meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6 p.m. Future topics will include sibling issues, summer camps, nutrition, resources for young adults (20+), and equestrian and alternative therapies. The group is supported through the Autism Society of North Carolina.
