A line of severe thunderstorms wreaked havoc in Polk County Thursday afternoon and into the evening.

Duke Energy reported via Twitter 255 power outages in Polk County, all of them reportedly within the Tryon city limits.

According to a Duke Power spokesperson, the majority of the outages occurred between 3-3:30 p.m., and power was restored by 5:15 p.m.

The storms initially moved into the area about 2 p.m. Thursday, bringing with them a National Weather Service severe storm-watch advisory, which remained in effect until 9 p.m.
