Carolina Scramble decided by playoff

AREA GOLF ROUNDUPThe team of Sandy Elliot, Hal Turner, Joe Eskridge and Wil Potter won Mondays Tryon Mens Golf Association 9-hole Carolina Scramble on a playoff at Tryon Country Club.

The winning team shot a 34 as did the second-place team of Tom Wilkes, Jerry Perry, Bob Morgan and Joe Boals. Third place went to Chuck Huneycutt, Art Brown, Dick Johnson and Rich Connolly with a 35.

Bill Basye was closest to the pin on No. 9.

Meadowbrook Seniors

The Meadowbrook Seniors were divided into age groups for a points tournament on Monday. Here are the results:

Age 55-64: 1. (three-way tie), Roger Bailey, Dan Gehl, Ralph Styles, +1.

Age 65-68: 1. Jerry Sparks +5; 2. Tal Holoman +4.

Age 69-73: 1. Buddy Mullins E; 2t. Jack Donovan, Henry Lemons, Earl Shields 1.

Age 74-80: 1. Max Pettit +8; 2. Ed Britton +5.

Marie Smith was the Tryon Womens Golf Association winner Tuesday at Tryon Country Club with a net 49 in the Blind Bogey tournament in which each player eliminated two holes per nine.

In the nine-hole group, Ann Gargiulo won with a net 19, and Barbara Manning finished second one stroke back.
