A community meeting with S.C. Department of Transportation officials concerning the building of sidewalks on North Randolph Street in Landrum has been scheduled for Aug 12 at 4 p.m.

The DOT will go over plans for the project in detail, said Landrum City Administrator Steve Wolochowicz.

Rights of way for the $300,000 project along North Randolph Street will encroach on the properties of 15 property owners, Wolochowicz said.

Survey work for the project has been completed, and construction is expected to begin in 2011.

At the meeting, Wolochowicz said residents will get a look at the complete project design and details of any changes property owners will have to make for the project.

Some small things such as trees and sheds will have to be moved from some of the areas where the sidewalk is planned, said Wolochowicz. Part of the construction area is on a slope, so a retaining wall will have to be built for that small portion of the sidewalk, so the DOT wants residents to know about that as well.

The City of Landrum received a $200,000 federal grant through the SCDOT for the project in 2009. The city pledged an additional $50,000 for the project and received another $50,000 grant from Spartanburg County.
