Pesticide pick-up day in Polk
Published 2:37 pm Wednesday, July 7, 2010
On Tuesday, July 20, residents from Polk County with unwanted or unused pesticides may dispose of them in a proper manner. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture, in cooperation with the Henderson County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, is sponsoring a pesticide collection day. This activity is open for residents and farmers from Polk, Henderson, Rutherford, Buncombe and Transylvania counties.
The pick-up location will be Jackson Park in Hendersonville and strict collection hours will be maintained from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For liquid pesticide containers that are larger than five gallons or pesticides that no longer have a legible label, contact Marvin Owings, agricultural extension agent at 828-697-4891. This should be done before bringing the large quantities or unlabeled products to the event.
Anyone needing directions to the site at Jackson Park may contact the Polk County Extension Center at 828-894-8218.
