12-year-old Rossen of Tryon wins junior tennis tourney in Asheville

Joaquin Rossen, 12, of Tryon emerged as Boys 12 & Under Singles Champion at the C.W. Craven Memorial Junior Tennis Tournament held at Country Club of Asheville.
The USTA sanctioned tournament ran from May 21-23, and attracted junior tennis competitors from throughout the region.
Rossen defeated Vishal Naik of Arden in the quarterfinal round with a score of 6-1, 6.2. In the semifinal, he defeated Wills Reed of Weaverville 6-3, 6-4.
Rossen, currently the third-ranked 12-year-old in Western North Carolina and No. 82 statewide, came into this tournament as a No. 1 seed. He trains locally in the Carolina Junior Tennis program under Coaches Cary Davenport and Edgar Rodriguez of Campobello.
