Harmon Field Tennis Court renovation receives grant

The Harmon Field Tennis Court Renovation project is now about halfway toward its fundraising goal thanks to an $11,000 grant from the Unrestricted Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation. The foundation previously provided a 2008 grant of $7,000 for the project. The town has until the end of 2011 to spend the funds.
An additional $7,000 in private donations and $4,000 in pledges from the Friends of Harmon Field and the Thermal Belt Community Tennis Association brings the total raised to $29,000, approximately halfway to the $60,000 goal.
Once the funds are raised, the tennis community will have the option of installing Flex Court synthetic surfacing or re-milling the existing surface and putting down fresh asphalt.
Matching requests of $11,000 each have also been submitted to the United States Tennis Association, the Polk County Commissioners, and the Town of Tryon. If you would like to contribute to this much needed project, please contact the Polk County Community Foundation and reference the Harmon Field Capital Improvement Fund.
