Lewis Vernon McGuinn, 74, of 897 McGuinn Road, Sunny View Community, Mill Spring, died Thursday, May 6, 2010 in the Smith Phayer Hospice House, Landrum, S.C.

Born in Polk County, he was the son of the late J. M. and Bonnettia Odel McGuinn. He was a trucker for 60 years who retired from Capps Brothers in July of 2009. L.V. was a staunch Republican and a lifelong member of Coopers Gap Baptist Church, Mill Spring.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Estee Jackson McGuinn; a daughter, Brenda K. McGuinn of Concord, N.C.; a brother, J. D. McGuinn (Jean) of High Point, N.C., and three sisters, Mollie Jo Robertson (Joe) of Bostic, N.C.; Maude Davis and Mildred Jackson (Jerry) both of Sunny View. Also surviving are two granddaughters, Victoria McGuinn Young and Katherine McGuinn Young. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Clifford, Charles, Hilliard and James Michael Junior McGuinn and&bsp; three sisters, Julia Jones, Rachel Lynch and Wilma Gilbert.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, May 10, 2010 in the Coopers Gap Baptist Church, with Rev. Warren Elliott officiating.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Monday.

Family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday night in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, Tryon.
