In the theater world you have to be quick on your feet, react to last minute changes and learn that the show must go on! And so it does!
The Tryon Youth Theaters (ages 13 to 20) summer production this year was to be Grease, but since the rights couldnt be secured from Samuel French, the decision was made to stage Aida, the rock musical based on Giuseppe Verdis opera of the same name.
With music by Elton John and words by Tim Rice, this show premiered on Broadway in 2000, and is an epic story of love, intrigue, betrayal, and new beginnings all set in ancient Egypt with pharaohs, princesses, and phabulous reggae, gospel, pop, Middle Eastern, and African-influenced music.
Auditions will be held at the Tryon Youth Center located at 2969 Hwy. 176 in Tryon, on Thursday, April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 1, from 12 to 1 p.m. Callbacks will be on May 1 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Bring sheet music from a Broadway show and be prepared to dance.&bsp; No flip-flops.
The performances will be July 7 through 11 at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, located at 34 Melrose Avenue in Tryon.
