Winifred O. Teal

Winifred O. Teal, 89, died on Monday morning March 22, 2010. Winifred was the daughter of Ethel and Walter Murray of Dearborn, Mich., and the sister of Kay Bloom, Ester Buckel, and Pat Schlaufman. Winifred grew up in Dearborn, Mich.

She was an artist and briefly worked as an x-ray technician before marrying Thomas G. Teal in 1951. Shortly after marrying, she and Tom moved to the country to Almont, Mich,, where together they raised five children. Winifred created a stable and loving home life for the family, and was an excellent cook, baker, and seamstress.

In 1978 Winifred and Tom retired and moved to Tryon, N.C. Winifred created beautiful craft items and returned to oil painting. She was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, contributing regularly to the church bazaar, and helped to distribute food to the poor. She was a beautiful person and a loving wife and mother.

She is survived by her sisters, Kay, Ester and Pat, and her five children, Kathleen, Patricia, Sharon, Thomas and Eileen. She has six grandsons. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Tryon.
