Winners of Sidney Lanier Poetry Award to be announced

The winners of the 2010 Sidney Lanier Poetry Award, sponsored by the Lanier Library, will be announced at an award ceremony at the Library on Sunday, April 11, at 2 p.m.

North Carolinas Poet Laureate, Cathy Smith Bowers is the competitions judge and will read a selection of her own works prior to presenting the awards. Bowers, a resident of Tryon, will be judging both the adult and the student competitions. The winners will be chosen from 133 entries submitted by poets from both North and South Carolina.

Due to the excellent response to the competition, the organizers announce that there will be three prizes awarded this year in each of the competitions categories.&bsp; In addition to receiving their prizes, the winners will be given the opportunity to read their winning entries at the ceremony.
