N.C. Highway Patrol and the Columbus Police Department were investigating a wreck yesterday morning where a Toyota 4runner ran off a steep embankment just across from the entrance to Polk County High School. The vehicle was so far down the embankment it could not be seen from the road. Reports were that a female driver went to a nearby service station yesterday morning. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital with unknown injuries. It was unclear as of yesterday exactly when the wreck occurred. Jackson’s Wrecker Service extracted the vehicle from the bottom of the embankment, with other rescue workers assisting, including from the Columbus Fire Department and the Polk County Rescue Squad.
