Harmon Field Outdoor Camp, begun in June 2009, under the Town of Tryon and Harmon Field Recreation, will be changing ownership and name, but the service will remain the same. Serendipity Kids Ranch, Inc., will now be running all the camp programs at Harmon Field and using the name Serendipity Outdoor Camp. Lorna Dever remains the director of the camp program.

Serendipity has been a favorite word of mine every since I was a teenager, Dever explained. It means to find something of great value unexpectedly. It is Devers hope that all parents and campers will find the outdoor camp program of great value to each of them as it continues to grow.

The camp will continue to be open any time school is not in session – Monday through Friday – whether it is for teacher workdays, holidays, or summer break. The staff and programs still remain the same. The After School Camp will continue to run.

The After School Camp continues to be a big success, with campers completing all or most of their homework before parents arrive. This gives parents an opportunity to enjoy quality time with their children in the evening. Any child may attend After School Camp, but bus service is only offered from Tryon Elementary and Polk Middle. Other parents are welcome to use the camp program if they can get their child transported to Harmon Field.

We have some big plans brewing for the upcoming Summer Camp, Dever spoke enthusiastically as she explained. We plan to pull in a lot more individuals and organizations willing to do demonstrations for the campers. We also will be having events throughout the summer, which children will not want to miss. Spring break will soon be upon us. We will be running a full week of camp April 5 to 9 and will be doing some of the fun activities that we plan to continue in the summer so campers can get an idea of what we will be offering during Summer Camp.
