Polk Highs ski/snowboard team takes silver

Polk County High Schools Ski and Snowboard team recently earned a silver medal for its strong performance in team snowboarding in the Suntrust Interscholastic Ski and Snowboard Challenge.
This and several individual accomplishments were earned after Polks team, along with 201 students from 17 schools in two states, completed the two-month Challenge hosted by Cataloochee Mountain.
Team member Matthew Brodie won the individual gold for skiing, beating 70 other skiers in the competition.
Team members Sam Basye finished 4th and Cole Pellatt finished 8th out of 85 male snowboarders. Donna Every finished 6th and Katherine Smith finished 8th among 23 female snowboarders.
“I am very proud of these kids,” says head coach Kim Mirasola, adding that assistant coach Sergey Zalevskiy also congratulates the students on their completing the Challenge,
In addition to Brodie, Basye, Pellatt, Every and Smith team members include Lee Arrington, Kevin Angier, Evan Morrow, Cade Underwood, Emily Antonio, Mitch Modlin, Dallas Phillips and Lorraina Ferrand.
