The Lake Lure Classical Academy, proposed for a site just north of the Polk County line, has been approved by the North Carolian State Board of Education. The board approved the official charter for the academy last week. The charter will be in effect through 2020, and the school will undergo a review in 2015. The Lake Lure Classical Academy, which plans to open in temporary modular units this August, will become the first school in the Lake Lure area in nearly 50 years. The school will be on land off Hwy. 9 near the Ingles at Lake Lure. Plans also call for a recreation center, ball fields and other amenities on adjoining land. The school plans to open with about 44 students in grades K-7, add eighth grade in 2011 and add one additional grade each year after that up to 12th grade.
