John L. “Johnny” Chitwood, 72, of Sumter, S.C., passed away February 15, 2010 at his home. He was born April 21, 1937 in Polk County and was the son of the late Robert B. and Betty Edwards Chitwood.
Mr. Chitwood was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and a retired electrician. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by daughter, Deborah Kay Chitwood Rouse of Deep Run, N.C., and son, John Keith Chitwood of Greer, S.C.; four grandchildren, Aundrea Michele Rouse, Eric Lake Rouse, John Phillip Chitwood and Ryan Keith Chitwood and one great-grandson, Landon Scott Knudson. Additionally he is survived by sisters, Frances Whitesell, Margie Giles and Julia Lancaster, and brothers, Bill Chitwood and Dean Chitwood. He was predeceased by daughter Barbara Ann Chitwood; son Randall Leland Chitwood; sisters Anise McSwain, Christine Peeler and Merle Parry and a brother, Preston Chitwood.
A private memorial service will be held Saturday, March 20 at Walnut Grove United Methodist Church, Roebuck, S.C.
