Landrum United Methodist Church Youth will host an italian dinner and basket auction on Saturday, March 20, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. for early auction viewing. Dinner will include an appetizer, spaghetti (with or without meat), salad, bread, dessert, coffee or tea.
This fundraiser is to support the LUMC Youth groups annual participation is the South Carolina UMC Salkehatchie Summer Service mission project. The South Carolina United Methodist Conference sponsors approximately 50 camps in South Carolina for youth to do home improvements and repairs for those most in need.
2010 will be the 10th year that Landrum UMC youth have participated in Salkehatchie Summer Service. Over the years the number of youth participating has grown and the church expects to send between 10 and 15 young people this summer.
In past years, the youth have completed room additions, replaced flooring, roof repairs, painting, yard clean-up and much, much more. Ben Pace, a senior at Landrum High School, recently completed his senior project and used the skills learned at Salkehatchie to plumb a sink and vanity. Pace plans to take the vanity to the Cayce/West Columbia Salkehatchie camp this summer and use it in one of the home improvement projects.
The Italian dinner and auction is a means to raise funds to offset the cost of the camp. Church members are donating baskets, buckets, coolers, and bags full of great items. The themes include:&bsp; Cat Lovers, Bird Watchers, Gardening, Car Wash, New Orleans, Coffee & Cream, Beach Fun and many, many more.
Tickets can be purchased from any member of the youth group or by calling the church office at 864-457-3984.
