Polk County billed $29,225 in 2009 for its response to spills and fires involving hazardous material.
The Polk County Local Emergency Planning Committee submitted its 2009 annual report to the county board of commissioners on Monday.
There were six transportation spills in 2009, including diesel fuel and miscellaneous materials, according to the report.
The county also responded to one fixed facility spill involving natural gas and two fires involving tires, metal and other items not allowed to be burned.
“The companies responsible for the spills were billed for respond, stand-by and initial containment,” the report says.
