Lona Mae Burrell Ross

Lona Mae Burrell Ross, 91, of Embury Street, Tryon died Thursday, February 25, 2010 in Autumn Care Nursing Center, Saluda.
Born in Tryon, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Susie Gosnell Burrell. She was married for 44 years to Tollie Ross, who died in 1980. She and her husband were owners and operators of Tollies Sandwich Shop in downtown Tryon for many years. Mrs. Ross was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are: three sons, Tollie Curtis Ross (Angela) of Landrum; Bill Ross (Judy) of Greer, S.C., and Mark Ross (Vickie) of Niceville, Fla.; two daughters, Anne Riggins and Catherine Wilson (Ed), both of Tryon. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Bobby Tucker. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Ross who died in 1941, and eight sisters.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010 in the McFarland Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Dean Elliott officiating.
Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens, Columbus, NC.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the McFarland Funeral Chapel.
