Tryon considers five-lot Blockhouse plan

Tryon Town Council will consider in March Phoenix Ventures, Inc.’s proposed five lot subdivision in the Hunting Country area next month.
The Tryon Board of Planning and Zoning agreed earlier this month to recommend approval of the California company’s proposed 28.44-acre subdivision. Previous plans put forth by the developer raised strong objections in the Hunting Country neighborhood.
The property in question is located off Hunting Country Road adjoining what is known as the Blockhouse, a historic property which was the original location of the Blockhouse Steeplechase.
Developers are proposing lots of at least five acres, as required by Hunting Country zoning. A total of 0.15 acres would remain open space, more than the town requires.
The property has an existing single-family dwelling occupied by renters as well as a series of buildings being used as horse stables, barns and equipment sheds. A stream runs through it.
