To the Editor:

Another giant fell this week: Sam White.

Sam was respectfully considered by many to be somewhat of a character. That referred, of course, to his many unique and virtuous personal qualities – his character. &bsp;

Sam was, indeed, a remarkable human being. Highly intelligent, articulate, caring, kind, considerate, thoughtful, a world-class good citizen, Sam was a good friend to many, loved and respected by all.

In the past, whenever I would write something like this about others who left this earthly coil before Sam, hed usually call or stop me on the street to say thank you and compliment me on what I had written.

Whether hed feel that this was worthy of a similar acknowledgement, Ill never know, but he can be assured of this: he was also loved and respected by me.
