William Edwin Baldwin Jr. of Tryon died February 8, 2010 at home.
Born February 16, 1918 in Dunn, N.C., to the late William Edwin and Carrie Felton Baldwin, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dixon Baldwin.
He graduated from Duke University Medical School in 1942, honorably served with the U.S. Army Medical Corps as captain in World War II, established a successful medical practice in Whiteville, N.C., and then entered industrial medicine with DuPont until retirement.
Survivors include one daughter, Virginia Kathleen Baldwin Cox (Tom) of Poquoson, Va., two sons, William Edwin Baldwin III (Connie) of Laurinburg, N.C., and Lawrence Felton Baldwin (Beth) of Harkers Island, N.C.; nine grandchildren, Elizabeth Hampton Cox of Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich., Katherine Felton Cox Read (Ryan) of Orlando, Fla., Ann Stuart Cox of Fort Collins, Colo., Megan Baldwin Potter, M.D. (Todd) of Griffin, Ga., William Edwin Baldwin IV, DVM (Emily) of Cornelia, Ga., Nathan Miller Baldwin, M.D. of Atlanta, Ga., Alexander Edwin Baldwin (Michelle) of Raleigh, N.C., Virginia Cameron Baldwin Roberson (Shelton) of Wilmington, N.C., Lawrence Dixon Baldwin of Raleigh, N.C.; four great grandchildren, Samuel Baldwin Potter, Lily Talbot Potter, Constance Carol Potter of Griffin, Ga., and Clara Dixon Baldwin of Cornelia, Ga.; one sister, Gretchen Sherrill of Austell, Ga.
A family memorial service will be held in Tryon.
