On Saturday, January 23, Foothills Riding Club members and their guests chased the winter blues away at the clubs annual Winter Doldrums Party held at the Red Fox Country Club located at 106 Club Road in Columbus.

Outside the winter chill lingered. Inside the atmosphere was warm and festive. Chef Jesse Woods treated partiers to a variety of buffet dishes.

While the group enjoyed dinner, FRC President, Marilyn Yike spoke about the clubs accomplishments. In the past year, FRC hosted four dressage and jumping shows, two cross-country schoolings, two schooling horse trials, a jumping derby, a sport horse versatility clinic, and an adult camp. Funds from benefit shows were donated to FENCE, Foothills Humane Society, Thermal Belt Outreach and PEER.

Yike says, Last year, the club offered some new activities which were very successful. As our membership expands, we are planning more diversity in both programs and activities.

In addition, Yike hinted at the exciting new season and upcoming events, including a presentation on March 17 at FENCE by composting expert Peter Moon and the introduction of a new protective airbag-style riding vest by a representative from the Farm House.

2009 was the inaugural year for FRCs annual Year-End Awards. Board member Barbara Crawford took the stage to announce and congratulate the winners.
