Ice coats Saluda, knocks out power

While most of Polk County received only rain on Friday, Saluda was not as fortunate to escape the latest winter storm. Pictured above is a section of Hwy. 176 between Saluda and Tryon, and pictured at right is downtown Saluda. Saluda Mayor Fred Baisden declared a state of emergency on Friday due to the widespread damage. Power was out to about 2,500 Duke Power customers in Polk County on Saturday. That number had been cut to about 450 by Monday morning.&bsp;According to the forecast as of Monday afternoon, more ice and snow was in the forecast for Saluda through Wednesday.&bsp;(photos by Patricia Fuller)
